How do i get my vw car radio out of safe mode?

Hi guys

My car radio got locked after the battery died and now it says safe, but there is a 2 on the left. I tried that thing where i leave the radio on for about 1 - 2 hours but it wouldn't come out of safe mode. Can somebody plz help me??????How do i get my vw car radio out of safe mode? You haven't mentioned what type of VW or radio are involved here, but when SAFE appears in the display, it means the anti-theft feature has been activated (which can happen in the case of a loss of power). You can only fix this by entering the correct code, which will have been included with the radio manual of your vehicle at the time of purchase by the original owner. It will usually be printed on a card the size of a standard credit card.

The "2" on the left that you mentioned is the number of incorrect attempts to enter the code. In this case, the radio is locked for one hour (at least, on our 2003 model). You must leave the radio on AND the key in the ignition during that one hour to allow for two new attempts at entering the correct code.

When you turn on the radio (of after one hour, after two failed attempts) the number "1000" should display on the radio. The first four buttons of your preset stations are used to enter the correct code (our radio has six of these, so the last two are not used):

- The first button is only used for the first digit.

- The 2 button is only used for the second digit.

- The 3 button is only used for the third digit.

- The 4 preset button is only used for the fourth digit.

In our vehicle, you press each button repeatedly until the correct digit displays. Pressing the button should cycle the appropriate digit through 1 to 9 and 0 until the correct digit shows up in that position, then move on to the next button. At the end of the sequence, press the [SEEK] ^ (up arrow) or the [SCAN] button for about two seconds and you should hear a beep indicating that you have correctly reset the code.

If you have lost this card, you will have to contact the dealer, with proof of ownership, so that they can order a new code and reset it.
