How to install after market radio in 2000 Vw Jetta?

Which color wires go where and how do you install the radio. How to install after market radio in 2000 Vw Jetta?First you have to pull out the factory unit and disconnect it from the harness. Generally you have to remove the surronding trim and remove a few screws. It's not difficult. Install the new radio housing for your vehichle (available at most major electronic/auto stores). They come with instructions and may require some modification. (Difculty level 3-4 out of 10)Then, buy a harness for your car (any major electronic/auto store will sell it.) your new radio will come with a wire color code as well will your harness. But generally the colors are as follows...

White+ to white+

white- to white-

green+ to green+

green- to green-

purple+ to purple+

purple- to purple-

grey+ to grey+

grey- to grey-

black to black (this is your ground)

red to red (this is your positive or "live wire")

yellow to yellow (connects the 12v+)

solid blue to solid blue

striped blue to striped blue. (if you have an amp this is where the blue wire will tie in.)

Now that the harness is wired you should be able to Connect your radio into where you initially disconnected they factory radio. slide your metal radio sleeve (supplied with radio) in and secure it the the new housing. Your new radio will slide in and you should hear a click. It's is now locked in. Turn your ignition over to make sure the radio powers up and works properly.( which if you followed the manual and my directions it should) then put your trim back on and your ready to rock!!! I have installed 2 different radios in my 98 golf and vws are tight. There isn't much room behind the radio so make sure all your wiring is no longer than necessary. I have also done a 96 cavalier, 99 Taurus, 05 celica (as well as subs and amp) 03 camaro (as well as subs and amp), 98 probe (as well as subs and amp) and a 95 civic. Installing radios is not difficult. I would say total difficult is about 6 out of 10. With about 1-2 hour instalation time for a novice. When you get better you will be able to put them in in about 15-30 minutes. I would recomend you buy auto wire strippers. They will speed up the job drastically. Have fun!
