96 vw golf leaking antifreeze and mixing it with oil?

bought a 96 VW Golf as is for $2,000. Took it to get inspected, asked them to check out a flashing coolant warning light, because the coolant level was fine. They did and told me that the coolant and oil had mixed at some point when the car had overheated. Also that antifreeze was leaking. What needs to be done to fix this? and how much am I looking at paying?96 vw golf leaking antifreeze and mixing it with oil?your problem sounds like you have a blown head gasket, This wont be to major as long as you have not gotten it so hot

that it has cracked the heads, good luck96 vw golf leaking antifreeze and mixing it with oil?
That is all well and good. Me being the curious one just doesnt take someones word on it at the first instant.

If it were ME, I would replace oil and antifreeze and start again. Not drive for rediculous distances but access the situation myself. Pressure test, find the problem.

Besides if you had it inspected by a certified mechanic they should have told you what you need to do to fix it and you wouldnt be asking here.

Hope this helps.

Cheers96 vw golf leaking antifreeze and mixing it with oil?You have a blown head gasket. Cost would be somewhere around $1,500-$2,000 depending on who does it. You might find someone that might do it for less but I would be very careful and don't pay in advance. Plus get some kind of warranty.96 vw golf leaking antifreeze and mixing it with oil?
It does not sound to good at all.

If it was my car i would take it to another shop and have them do what is called a pressure check on the system. This will pin point where your problem/problems lie.96 vw golf leaking antifreeze and mixing it with oil?you have a blown head gasket or a cracked head . DO NOT RUN the car until it is fixed or your engine will seize up . don't even drive it to the shop have it towed . you are looking at around a $1000.00 give or take a few hundred depending on which one it is . you might want to cut your loss and sell it ,

a little advise the next car you buy have somebody that knows what to look for or take it to your shop and have them look it over first if the owner of the car says no move on to the next one because their is something they are trying to hide,96 vw golf leaking antifreeze and mixing it with oil?
Find out if you have an oil cooler on your motor. Most VW's do. I have had to replace a few for the symptoms you describe.Since the oil is under a higher pressure than the coolant, oil can force it's way into the radiator. Coolant leaks are common from the water outlet on the back of the head. As stated already, find someone who knows VW.
