He has had no radio in the vehicle since he purchased it. So I wanted to surprise him for Christmas. He has been riding with no radio for 2 years! He can install it himself. I just need radio suggestions.I would like to get my husband a radio for a 1970 VW Beetle. Where and what kind of radio do I need to fit it?Check the JC Whitney catalog. It used to be that radios for '70 VWs were real common -- you could get a faceplate to fit almost ANY radio/cassette deck/8-track (!) they made, but now that's somewhat different.
There are other source, of course. But you want to find out how much room you have in the dash (the opening AND the depth behind it) -- the faceplate itself will probably be easier to come by than the radio with the features you want (just AM/FM ain't enough, is it? Go for a CD player and an iPod jack!).
You can do a lot of radio-research online of course, but you do need to find those basic dimensions first. Then you can go in BestBuy.com (or manufacturer's pages) and get the dimensions of the units in your price range. Or just call some local places and ask.I would like to get my husband a radio for a 1970 VW Beetle. Where and what kind of radio do I need to fit it?It all really depends, I have a 1969 bus imported to Scotland from America. Electrics wise it will be pretty similar to your mans bug. The main thing you need to find out is the voltage of the cars electrics. When I got my van it was running at 6v which we changed to 12v which is the same as modern cars.
If the beetle is running at 12v then pretty much any off the shelf radio will work. My 1969 van has the radio out of my 2001 Passat in it. I wouldn't stress too much about it. Buy one you think he will like and he will be able to fit it, there is always a way.
As for size radios can be mounted under the dashboard with something like this - http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/autoleads鈥?/a> - as there is plenty of room under a beetles dash.
Good luck.I would like to get my husband a radio for a 1970 VW Beetle.
