My cost of service is approx 拢120 inc vat due to a low 拢35 ph labour charge where as vw labour is 拢90 per hour.

You would be wise to stick the main dealer because if there are any safety updates or recalls on that car then they will do them for free during the service. Also, you can then be assured that you will not cause any warranty issues. Most of the first service cost is for consumables and you will not save much money on them. I have had 4 or 5 recall/updates on my VW.
