You will need a MIG or TIG welder to do this job (preferably MIG). Do not attempt with a normal stick welder - you will just burn holes all over the place.
I think the site that 'bill f' recommended is excellent. If you look in this article apart from all the other tools required it says "...big ticket items like an air compressor and a MIG Welder)".
AND please do not try and use Bondo like someone else suggested.
