I have owned Fords, Mazda, Toyota and can honestly say that VW is no higher than these.
Having said that, I caution any one considering a 10 year old Luxury car. Because that is what the Passat was, basically.
You may find some parts at local auto stores, but some are going to be available only at the VW dealer. Expensive; but you get what you pay for. Dealer parts are high quality and fit perfectly.
My suggestion is to have a knowlegeable mechanic take a look at it before you buy. I personally would not buy a car without service records or reciepts for oil/filter changes, etc.Is a 2000 vw passat a good car to have?VW is reliable and i know many people that drive 2000' VW that run like a charm... great engine!! that's probably what he is referring to... but without a doubt a good carIs a 2000 vw passat a good car to have?nooo bad choice! you will run into soo much mechanical trouble with this 10 year old vw! go with something easier and cheaper to maintain! like honda or toyota.
