My parents are buying me a used vw new beetle '00 for my first car. I've been driving in my mom's '05 ford escape. I honestly really hate the SUV, it has a lot of power for its size and it just seems cumbersome when parking. It is much more smaller than the Ford. It is just a matter of getting used to it. Like drive it on the road and at the very beginning, get out of the car and see where it sits on the road.
