How do i remove/ install a halfshaft on a 04 VW passat, driver's side?

You will need socket drive Allen wrenches in metric sizes. Pull your hub-cap and in the very center is a large bolt. A 17mm Allen wrench is used to remove the original bolt. Replacement bolts are removed with regular socket. Unless you can loosen that bolt first,you are stuck. Jack car, unfasten inner CV joint from trans and slide down. Remove center bolt holding outer CV to wheel assembly. Turn wheel hard over and persuade axle out of wheel,pull free of wheel and slide axle out. Use the brake to hold axle when loosening CV bolts. installing is the reverse. Center bolt should be replaced and tightened to specs.
