VW Golf 2004 What kind of oil am I supposed to use?

Since it is too expensive right now to take my car into get the oil changed my husband is going to do it but I lost my owners manual so I don't know what kind of motor oil it takes. Anyone who truely knows VW's please let me know. Thanks!!!!VW Golf 2004 What kind of oil am I supposed to use? Most of them take the 5w-30, at least the ones my friends have had. One friend had the Golf, another the Passat, and one had the Jetta. They all took the 5w-30 when I would help them change their oil.

The best thing to just make sure is to give a VW dealer a quick call and ask at the service dept. They can tell you right over the phone.

it should say on the fan housing or the oil fill capVW Golf 2004 What kind of oil am I supposed to use?Depends on what engine you have, the base 2.0L is fine with any good quality 5W-30, the 1.8 T (the turbo) engine MUST use a synthetic oil. Because of the extra heat generated by the turbo the engine is sludge pronewith conventional mineral oil, VW specifies only synthetic oil. Mobil 1 is 5W-30 is a good choice.
