When converting a 1200 vw engine to a 1600 dp engine do i keep the original camshaft and crankshaft?

i want to convert my engine i was wondering if i have to replace the rods, camshaft or crankshaft

does anyone know? When converting a 1200 vw engine to a 1600 dp engine do i keep the original camshaft and crankshaft?on the 1200 the stroke on the crank is 64 mm to get to 1600 will need to change the crank to a 69 mm stroke, and put in a set of slip in 87 mm pistons to make it 1642cc,check out cbperformance.com or appletreeautomotive.com for parts.might want to put in a new cam and change the rods too. When converting a 1200 vw engine to a 1600 dp engine do i keep the original camshaft and crankshaft?Just buy a 1600 LB! In the long run, it will most likely save you money. By the time you get a new crank and pistons and cam...etc etc you'll end up paying more than you would for a simple LB with all the internals. Also, with every part you don't replace on the motor when you do the conversion, you can expect it to break! My own personal experience says, upgrade or replace it all.

I learned real quick when it came to my fuel pump and fuel line. I replaced the pump first and then like clockwork each line that i didn't replace started breaking, one right after another. Its just the way VWs are!

Get a 1600 LB and build up the rest using german parts you find on CL, The Samba, etc etc.

You can thank me later! lolWhen converting a 1200 vw engine to a 1600 dp engine do i keep the original camshaft and crankshaft?Don't change it. Buy a 1600 cc core. Sell the 1200 cc motor for a lot of money %26amp; get a 1600.
