How do I replace an oil pan on a 2003 VW Passat V6?

I cracked my oil pan and called the shop. They said itd take a good 7 hrs of work to replace it costing $490. I looked underneath at the pan and it looks like a sway bar is all thats in the way, that I can loosen up easily. Does anyone have any experience with this? How do I replace an oil pan on a 2003 VW Passat V6?If you want to do the work yourself, I would suggest a VW repair manual.

You may be able to check a copy out at your local library.

See what is involved in replacing the oil pan; the manual will tell you if you need special tools. Also , it will include torque specs for the many bolts that surround the pan.

However, $490 seems a fair price in my opinion...... if it included parts, labor, etc.

Installed a new stereo in a vw and it doesnt turn off at all why?

all connections are in the correct place ignition switch and always hot positive, i double checked them as well what could be the problem it is a sony in dash into a vw gti.Installed a new stereo in a vw and it doesnt turn off at all why?Double check your connections again. If the remote turn on lead on the aftermarket radio isn't connected to a switched +12V source, the radio will stay on for as long as the battery has a charge. Most Metric and other aftermarket harnesses for VWs have key wires crossed I've found. Many people run into an issue where a wire intended to be hot from the factory is grounded, disabling the OBD2 connector under dash.Installed a new stereo in a vw and it doesnt turn off at all why?Are referring to when you turn the key off? Clarify your question, and maybe I can help.

  • What is the metal tube that came with my 1970 VW Beetle fuel line replacement kit?

It is a trapezoidal piece of metal tubing that attaches somewhere to the fuel line. Where does it go?What is the metal tube that came with my 1970 VW Beetle fuel line replacement kit?If I'm not mistaken it goes from the fuel pump around the fan shroud and through the front vertical pan. The rubber fuel line coming from the body attaches to it. What is the metal tube that came with my 1970 VW Beetle fuel line replacement kit?Daves right --it hangs in a nylon snap lock and goes thru a rubber grommet near the #3 spark plug lead. After it snakes behind the distributor it is spliced to the fuel pump with some rot-me cloth covered fuel line. Make sure you get it on the correct fitting at the fuel pump.

Have VW Polos got any better over the years?

A few years back (1997), I had a new VW Polo 1.4 SE. It was a nice car, well built and felt solid. However, the suspension and handling was rubbish. It wallowed round corners, felt like it was going to turn over.

Has anybody bought a more recent example, have they improved, and are they worth the money?Have VW Polos got any better over the years?Yes! I'm on my 3rd Polo. This face lifted model from 2005 onwards is a mini-golf. Very comfortable to drive on long journeys. The 1.4 TDI PD engine easily gives 55-60 mpg on long journeys.

The only downside is VW service costs! Although the spy pics of the new Polo looks cool. I'm moving up to the big brother next time, a golf for me!Have VW Polos got any better over the years?
I have a Polo 1.4 SE on a 52 plate and I really like it, I have only had it for 6 months and so far I have had no major problems, the only thing is the VW repair and service prices are so high, I need to change a lamba sensor which is a really easy job, I got somebody to fit it but still had trouble as you have to tell the on board computer you have changed it!! so had to spend 拢300 just to take it into VW so there could sort out the computer, but apart from that no complaintsHave VW Polos got any better over the years?Got a '97 Skoda Felicia which uses the Polo chassis. Handles fine and doesn't wallow at all. Sounds like you had some duff tyres or springs/dampers.Have VW Polos got any better over the years?
definitely - I had a polo once and it handled nicely except the brakes were absolutely useless, I don't know how it ever passed its MOT, and that was no defect, they were built like it !!Have VW Polos got any better over the years?I recently bought my wife a Polo 1.6 2004 and it runs great. She just changed it form her older Polo '98 which never gave us any problems either, and actually ran great which is why we changed for the same make and model just a newer year.

The new Polo (which changes model in '02) is very sleek and smooth, runs real nice. My wife is very pleased.

You might have had faulty shocks or steering issues.

Hi I did repair my car vw polo 1.4 cl with a replacement of thermostat is there any thing I should observe?

Hi I did repair my car vw polo 1.4 cl with a replacement of thermostat is there any thing I should observe to or is there any thing I should get checked with the mechanicHi I did repair my car vw polo 1.4 cl with a replacement of thermostat is there any thing I should observe? If the car has a temperature gauge you can check to see if the thermostat is working correctly by observing the temperature from a cold start. With the engine cold, the temperature will rise quickly up the dail and then when the thermostat opens it will fall some and then start to rise again.

If you do not have a gauge, you can squeeze the top radiator hose on a COLD engine. If you feel resistance, the thermostat is closed.

As long as there are no leaks, you don't need to worry.

    Good Luck!

Why does my 2001 vw gti vr6 rattle only when I accelerate?

Rattling occurs it seems from the bottom of the car and goes away once I'm in 3rd gear. Could it be the exhaust? Why does my 2001 vw gti vr6 rattle only when I accelerate?I would have your mechanic look at the undercarriage and see if something's broken or loose. I've had to do this for every one of my vehicles at one point or another as normal maintenance. Why does my 2001 vw gti vr6 rattle only when I accelerate?it could be the exhaust if it sounds like it is coming from the back. the exhaust could be rattling against the heat sheild. it some times happens when you have a aftermarket exhaust. Why does my 2001 vw gti vr6 rattle only when I accelerate?I'm going to take a stab and say its the shifter rod bushings. • How do I replace the door seals on a 1973 VW Super Beetle?

I need to replace the weatherstriping along the whole door. How do I replace the door seals on a 1973 VW Super Beetle?Doc's got it about right, but I like 3M Super weatherstrip adhesive (black) part #08001. Brush a bead on the door, another on the rubber %26amp; let them dry. Add a fresh bead to the door, then install. How do I replace the door seals on a 1973 VW Super Beetle?Your best bet is to start with good-quality seals such as those sold by California-based West Coast Metric.

Remove the old seals from the car, being careful to not leave any pieces in the grooves. Use a good grade of contact adhesive such as Permatex or Dupont trim %26amp; seal adhesive %26amp; drop a bead in the groove- I started installing my door seals in the top corners of the doors and worked my way around them, careful not to stretch the seals. Keep the glue handy!. You'll want to remove the door-stays to get the seals all the way on- do not cut the seals! In all, it's an easy job and gives great results.

What could i add to my vw bus to make it go faster?? Just to like at least 70mph or 80mph?

I would like to know what I could put on my vw bus so it can go just a bit faster.?. I don't want it to be like a hot rod or anything I just want it to go highway speeds or just a little faster than it.What could i add to my vw bus to make it go faster?? Just to like at least 70mph or 80mph?Rebuild the engine using 88mm pistons, dual carbs. and a good header exhaust. The carburetors don't have to be real expensive ones, I suggest a pair of Delortos. Assuming you already have a stock 1600cc motor, this will build it up to an 1835cc motor. Anything bigger would require machine work and allot more money. What could i add to my vw bus to make it go faster?? Just to like at least 70mph or 80mph?
You did not tell us anything about the year or engine, so no one can give really good advice.

I would agree however that all cars can get more hp with less exhaust obstruction and a more balanced and tuned flow. Catalytic converters should always be removed and replaced with straight pipes that can be switched back for DEQ testing, not only because they hurt power and mileage, but because they produce all sorts of horrible toxins like cyanates, formalins, and sulfites.

If it has fuel injection, I would not replace the fuel injection with a carb however, but instead would do things like adjust the fuel pressure regulator in order to allow the engine to get more gas. You can also add a variable potentiometer to all the sensors, like O2, temp, etc., in order to tweak them.

Timing needs to be advanced as much as possible, but we can't advise if you should get a different distributor or a new chip because we don't know what year you have. And then you will have to use premium gas.

Breathing is important, and some of the cold air intakes are supposed to help. Some sort of air scoops always help ram air into the intake and increase power.

Changing the camshaft is a fairly inexpensive way to greatly increase HP on the water cooled engines. But longer valve duration and overlap will shorten valve life because they don't touch as long and conduct heat away. Too much effort on the air cooled.

If you are serious about getting more out of the engine, the first thing to do is to add more instrumentation, such as gauges to show what the fuel pressure, intake manifold pressure, O2 sensor, temp sensor, air sensor, etc., are reading. Only when you have this dynamic data, can you tell if a fuel pump, sensor, etc., might be holding the engine back. What could i add to my vw bus to make it go faster?? Just to like at least 70mph or 80mph?put bigger tires on the rear. this will in a sense re-gear the transmission. or you can buy a gene berg 5 speed transmission. you dont really need more power to get a higher top speed. buy larger tires for the back and you will be able to go faster. it will be harder to start in 1st gear though, i mean you will have to ride the clutch longer and rev the motor higher. in turn you will burn the clutch out slightly faster than normal, but considering that a clutch kit costs about $120 - $150 and you can do it yourself in about 2 hours its worth it and its the cheapest way to increase your top speed
your thinking of making your vw bus quicker, but your NOT thinking about the brakes,

it might be a good idea to blast down the highway at 80 mph but what happens if you need to stop quick,, the standard brakes in the van wont be able to cope with the extra braking it needs to do due to the van was only built to do 50-60 mph and so was the brakes

big bore exhaust and a hi-performance air filter should give you about 7-10 bhp extra, and a twin carb another 10-20 bhp,What could i add to my vw bus to make it go faster?? Just to like at least 70mph or 80mph?there's a lot of ways to go. You can but higher compression heads on it (make sure you get the proper pistons and rods for that) You can but a big bore cylinder kit on it, you can turbo or supercharge it (but the engine most likely will not enjoy that- expect life to drastically decrease) Another popular option is swapping a later vw engine (like a type 4) into it, or subaru.

To th3donkwhatever; you can't chip a car with carbs, dumbshit. What could i add to my vw bus to make it go faster?? Just to like at least 70mph or 80mph?
Yeah definately a exhaust and carb setup would help the most, but the simple things that help would be to make it a slippery as possible, waxing it up, taking off any roof racks, making a brick go down the road is always interesting! I put a 1.8 out of a mid 80s jetta in mine with a Kennedy adapter, it would go 80 easily!
Are you sure you want it to go faster? I had a 72 Bus, and it was a handful at speed, especially with a crosswind. As someone else said, improve the brakes if you do make other mods, and maybe the suspension. And don't hit a deer...What could i add to my vw bus to make it go faster?? Just to like at least 70mph or 80mph?
A carb and manifold upgrade will help with the performance without tearing into the engine.

Put a rocket in the back of it. Lol. I don't think you can make one go over 60 and heaven fprbid you have to take it up a hill.
Supercharge, turbo, performance chip, or upgrade headers. Also small things can make a difference such as, upgraded exhaust system, k %26amp; n air filter, or cold air intake.

Thanks! What mileage should a cam belt be changed on 1995 VW Polo?Every 60K miles So you are getting near that time. It is not saying it will fail, but you can pretty well be assured you will be safe if it is done at that time. It is VW recommendation. 60,000miles(or 100,000km)What mileage should a cam belt be changed on 1995 VW Polo?I agree with 100,000. I think many of the dealers try to get you to change just so they make some money. But you know what? When you bring it in for the change at 60,000 miles, many of them will never change the belt but charge you as if it was changed. Please ask for the old belt before they start working. I have seen so many people tell me that they had oil changes and filter changes only to point out to the person later on that the filters are the oringinals. A belt change takes a lot of time. And time means money for the garages. Some belts drive a water pump. They may charge you for a new pump too unless you tell them ahead of time, not to change it unless its leaking. And then ask for the old parts. What mileage should a cam belt be changed on 1995 VW Polo?60,000 miles or 4 years whichever comes 1st.What mileage should a cam belt be changed on 1995 VW Polo?

In the long run, it will most likely save you money. By the time you get a new crank and pistons and cam...etc etc you'll end up paying more than you would for a simple LB with all the internals. Also, with every part you don't replace on the motor when you do the conversion, you can expect it to break! My own personal experience says, upgrade or replace it all.

I learned real quick when it came to my fuel pump and fuel line. I replaced the pump first and then like clockwork each line that i didn't replace started breaking, one right after another. Its just the way VWs are!

What do you need to put a turbo in a VW GTi VR6 1998?

Do you guys know what parts i need to do this? What do you need to put a turbo in a VW GTi VR6 1998?Usually when you buy a turbo it is easiest to select a kit from an aftermarket distributor. This is a rough list, but besides the turbocharger itself you will need a new exhaust manifold, wastegate, blow-off or diverter valve, boost controller, lines for oil and/or coolant, a downpipe, an upgraded fuel pump, injectors, ECU software, and intercooler and all the associated piping. You will very possibly not be able to use a regular VR6 intake and exhaust with a turbo VR6, so just start saving if that what you know you want to do.What do you need to put a turbo in a VW GTi VR6 1998?Head over to VWVortex and do a little reading and you will know exactly what parts you will need.

    How do i remove/ install a halfshaft on a 04 VW passat, driver's side?

Steps to the procedure would be much appreciated...Thanks!How do i remove/ install a halfshaft on a 04 VW passat, driver's side?It takes a couple of tools and some help to do this job. You will need socket drive Allen wrenches in metric sizes. Pull your hub-cap and in the very center is a large bolt. A 17mm Allen wrench is used to remove the original bolt. Replacement bolts are removed with regular socket. Unless you can loosen that bolt first, you are stuck. Jack car, unfasten inner CV joint from trans and slide down. Remove center bolt holding outer CV to wheel assembly. Turn wheel hard over and persuade axle out of wheel, pull free of wheel and slide axle out. Use the brake to hold axle when loosening CV bolts. installing is the reverse. Center bolt should be replaced and tightened to specs.

How do I fix my headlight light on my 1973 VW Super Beetle?

I bought a new headlight and put it on and it still does not work, I also checked the fuses. What could be wrong? How do I fix my headlight light on my 1973 VW Super Beetle?Make sure you are getting voltage to the connector. If not start tracing the wires back to the headlight switch and probe as you go to find a break in the wire. Let me back track first though. Check to see if you have voltage into the headlight switch and out of the switch. If you have voltage in but not out the switch is bad. If you have voltage in and out then you need to trace that wire down and find your short. How do I fix my headlight light on my 1973 VW Super Beetle? The headlights, tail lights and brake lights should all be on SEPARATE fuses for R %26amp; L. This was done purposely so that you wouldn't loose both headlamps / tail lamps in the case of a blown fuse.

If your tail lamp is still working on that side, then I believe that would rule out a fuse issue.

As stated above, start with checking for voltage at the headlamp connector. there are 3 wires - one for low beam, one for high beam, and one earth. Also check for continuity to earth (the brown wire).

Does the high beam come on? Or is it dead for both L/H?

Sometimes when you push the connector onto the back of the lamp, you can snag one of the female spades inside and it will get pushed back out of the connector assembly, not making contact. How do I fix my headlight light on my 1973 VW Super Beetle? The vw dub was famous for lousy fuze's. I would always have to make sure both sides of where the fuse was gong to be sitting was brightly polished. Then the fuse had to be clean and polished, then I compressed the fuse holder so the fuse would get a better contact. This said, next thing was to find a schematic and trace the wiring. Both headlights should be on the same fuse. I drove a vw back from Florida to Virginia a couple years ago, it got night and I turned on my lights and only got the brights, needless to say, I was rather scared a cop would catch me the last 100 miles of the trip. But as I read your question again it sounds like a faulty ground. You could take the working headlight and run that power over to the headlight that doesn't work and make sure you have a good ground and you see it work. Choose a different ground than what vw has chosen, because rust takes over and the ground goes bad. be interested to know the outcome. buy a good schmatic of the vw. I had to work with the wiring diagram in one hand and the wires in the other hand. its not a tough diagram. it was funHow do I fix my headlight light on my 1973 VW Super Beetle?

I need to get my rear brakes/rotors, one ball joint, two rear wheel bolts, and my serpentine belt replaced. I also need an oil change. How much should all this cost to fix including labor? Thanks! How much will it cost to replace brakes, ball joint, wheel bolts and belt for a 99 VW beatle?it will most likely run about 600.00 to 800.00 dollars. you can also go into a shop and get a written estimate. and that is at no charge. make sure it includes the price of parts and book time labor.. book time labor is the recommended time to make repairs to your car. the ball joint is about an hour, the belt is about an hour, half hour for each wheel stud, and about 2.5 hours for your rear brakes depending on the e-brake shoes. good luck!!How much will it cost to replace brakes, ball joint, wheel bolts and belt for a 99 VW beatle?Parts, you're looking at about 300$ from autozone, expect about 350$ from an independent shop, 450$ from the dealer. I'd estimate about 5 hours of labor by the book, at 65$ an hour which is what most independent shops charge, you're looking at about 325$ in labor. The dealer may charge as much as 100$ an hour, sometimes more. How much will it cost to replace brakes, ball joint, wheel bolts and belt for a 99 VW beatle?around 300 usd should be fairHow much will it cost to replace brakes, ball joint, wheel bolts and belt for a 99 VW beatle?

Rear brakes+ rotors (oem replacement around 150); ball joint at least 100, wheel bolts? Under 20. Serp belt about 30-40. But the installation is going to kill you 4 hours by book? About that...

At least 500 altogether at an indy shop.

Can you replace a VW front light without paying dealer costs and fixing it yourself?

Or is this risky and can potentially damage the car? I'm a girl and don't know much about cars, I'm just tired of dishing out at least 40 bucks everytime my front left light goes out- and its always the same one.

And- warranty is expired. Can you replace a VW front light without paying dealer costs and fixing it yourself?there many places that are good and cheaper.

have them look for a wire that is shorting out and causing the problem. Can you replace a VW front light without paying dealer costs and fixing it yourself? You should be able to do it just fine. Your owners manual should detail the process of changing a bulb for your particular model. Now, VW might use a proprietary bulb design that might force you to buy the bulb from them, but you can still put it in yourself.

The only car I can think of which most people can't change a bulbs on is the latest generation of Chevy Malibu, which requires that you take off the entire bumper cover to access the bulbs. Sure, any backyard mechanic should be able to do it, but not the single mother of three who needs her car to just "Go" as a friend of mine put it.Can you replace a VW front light without paying dealer costs and fixing it yourself?would think so

What are the acceleration times for a 1970s standard vw beetle?

with a 1600 engine? supposedly the 1300 super beetle 0-60mph 18.4 seconds which is extremely slow. The reason I ask is I can buy a cheap one that is extremely good cond thats looks super cool, is the acceleration really that bad for these cars. I dont need it to be fast but something at least capable of keeping up with the traffic and overtaking when need be on highways. Are there simple cheap mods to make acceleration decent? What are the acceleration times for a 1970s standard vw beetle?I timed my 100% stock 1973 Volkswagen Beetle with a 1600cc 46hp, and it ended up being 17.9 seconds. They are very powerful, especially for the low hp. Not the best accelerators, but they do go.

By the way, it does keep up with traffic. I never floor it, ever, and I pass cars like hell. I do 75 a lot with mine. I often surpass 80 uphill. And it gets there without a problem. It often wants to accelerate past redline, going uphill. I don't even have a Super Beetle. It isn't fast, don't get me wrong, but that asshole that answered first obviously never drove one.

Plus, name ONE car with UNDER 50hp that can do a good burnout, other than a classic Volkswagen Beetle. I even get it chirping in 2nd.What are the acceleration times for a 1970s standard vw beetle?Yes even the Super Beetle will not keep up with traffic. Top speed is probably 70 mph too.

All but the top of the line pre 1973 muscle cars and sports cars would be very slow by modern standards. The Super Bettle would be slow by any standards.

BTW for an idea of how slow 18 seconds 0-60 is look at a semi. Modern ones can do 0-60 in around 20-22 seconds unloaded. A Smart car is the only thing I can think of that cant do 0-60 in less than 11 seconds.

Prime - You seem to have a serious case of little man syndrome probably caused by driving that "very powerful" car. Like it or not top speed was listed as 80 mph. Given that this was 30+ years ago you can be sure that its not going to get faster. Being able to chirp the tires in 2nd gear is due to the 60+ year old suspension design and small tires not power. What are the acceleration times for a 1970s standard vw beetle?if you want one, forget speed and power. They never had any.

If you need to install an antenna where one does not already exist, then you need to remove the headliner, drill a hole in your roof, install antenna base, install antenna wire (amplified) and connect antenna with head unit, and re-install headliner.

I've tried a new switch but no success. ThanksVw polo 2001 driver electric window wont work most of the time?If it's working sometimes and not others it has to be the wiring or the connections in the motor, (or motor itself).Vw polo 2001 driver electric window wont work most of the time?hiya well the slow operation on the passenger side is 1 of 2 things,

the window may be sticking in the rubber runner, normally you have to take the door casing off and spray a Greece in to the rubber, then operate the window a few times to work this in. the second option is a tired motor. but all ways do the first option to begin with.

Where is the turbo located in a stock 2002 VW GTI?

I am going to be installing a manual boost control and I need to know where the turbo is located. I have not looked for it yet because I thought that this might be easier.Where is the turbo located in a stock 2002 VW GTI?If you don't even know where your turbo is located, I would not suggest trying to install a manual boost controller. Some how I think you lack the responsibility to use it properly.

A MBC will give you the instant opportunity to blow up your motor. I would suggest having a professional install it and set your boost level.

On the GTI your turbo is between the motor and the firewall, under the exhaust manifold and slightly to the drivers side.

What kind of Spark Plug Wire is used on a 2001 VW Jetta Turbo 1.8?

I wish to replace the spark plugs on my 2001 VW Jetta 1.8L Turbo. How is this done? Do I need a special tools? What kind of Spark Plug Wire is used on a 2001 VW Jetta Turbo 1.8?Go to a car accessory shop and ask for a set of leads for a 2001 VW Jetta 1.8L Turbo. They sell them in complete sets. When you get them home take them out of the box and they are all in different lengths. There will also be one that's slightly different for the coil.

Pull of the lead that seems to be the longest from the spark plug end first. Then pull it of the distributor end.Compare the length to the ones you bought and if you have pulled of the longest one it should be of similar length.Keep doing this changing one at a time.If you take them all off at once and are not sure of the firing order the firing order will be out.So like I said remove one lead and replace one lead until you have finished.

When you have done the plug leads take the lead off the coil and distributor and change that and all should be well.

There may be some clips that holds the leads here and there,if so push the leads into the clips as you remove then.

That's about it.What kind of Spark Plug Wire is used on a 2001 VW Jetta Turbo 1.8?If you don't have the basic socket set for fixing the lawnmower for example, then you cannot do this job. Otherwise you can buy the standard spark plug socket(must be spark plug socket because they have the rubber insert) at any hardware supply store. (I got my initial set from Sears) plus you will need a ratchet. Ask the sales person in the hardware section to assist you. Tell him/her what you want to do and they will show you the necessary tools. Wal~Mart may have the same thing(except I already have tools guaranteed for "life" from Sears, so I don't look.

Also, you will need to purchase spark plugs. Any automotive store(section) will have that, and you need it for 1.8 VW There is a book there to tell you which plugs you should be using.

    Wires, the same deal.

Also you need to pic up a 6 pack from the liquor store because you just wanna.

    Now go home and crack open a beer(because with all that driving the engine is hot) You want to do a change on a cold engine. Which means at least 2 hours(or 3 minimum) of waiting. {Guess I should have included a pizza in your list..}

Oh, you "could change the plugs on a hot engine". Just don't expect to remove them so easily, "the next time" because it won't happen. The threads will strip out.

Changing the wires is a "1 at a time operation" Take off one and replace with a new one of correct length or longer.

Done like the pizza and maybe you still have a cold beer chilling in the fridge. The car will start and run. Try it. No need to drive it. You just changed your Adidas for Nikes-a running shoe is a running shoe. If the car starts missing or running rough, pull the wires off the plugs one at a time and replace if it kills the motor(that plug is good) Find the one where the stumbling engine does not change-that is a faulty plug(you can buy them new) Take it out and put an old one back(the best of the lot) so the car is driveable and take the plug back to same store with receipt and get a replacement. Heck, I changed all the plugs in my car and 3(new ones) of them were bad(outta 4)

What more-affordable cars are there that are similar to the VW Jetta?

It can be from any other make, my bf just told me that his dream car would be a VW Jetta, his old car (94 Honda Accord) is old and ready to quit so were looking for any better used carWhat more-affordable cars are there that are similar to the VW Jetta?def look at the honda civic hybrids 2005 or just the regular civics from 2005 onward. the normal civic has OK power with pretty good mpg and the hybrid get real good mpg but it has no power. i was considering the civic alongside the jetta while car shopping. they have similar lines and angles and look just as good as the jettasWhat more-affordable cars are there that are similar to the VW Jetta?vw rabbit good and dependable, convertibles are coolWhat more-affordable cars are there that are similar to the VW Jetta? The Golf/Rabbit would be a great choice. Similar to Jetta but without a trunk. I love the hatchback style. I am a bit prejudiced because I own a 2006 GTI. Best car I've ever owned!

However, if you dont like the hatchback style, then definately get a Jetta.

My wife has a 2005 Jetta with 76k super-reliable , fun filled miles on it. This car has never let us down.

Yes VWs may seem to cost a bit more , but they generally offer more safety features. For example, they weigh more than the average economy car because of the use of more robust materials; thicker guage steel, wider tires, larger disc rotors, full size spare, etc.

Car magazines are always reporting on how VW interiors set the benchmark; the quality and materials used can be found in cars costing $1000s more.

Plus, there is a good side to the slightly higher purchase price. When you decide to sell it, you get a high re-sale too!

  • How do I find out how much a 2008 VW Golf is worth after $10000 worth of rear frame damage?

I bought a "like-new"car last year and recently found out it had $10,000 worth or repairs done as a result of being rear-ended in it's first week on the road. I got ripped off and I want to find out what it was actually worth. How do I find out how much a 2008 VW Golf is worth after $10000 worth of rear frame damage?thats a total on that car//does it have a rebuilt or salvage title//??How do I find out how much a 2008 VW Golf is worth after $10000 worth of rear frame damage? If you found out after the sale and it was not disclosed you at purchase, you may have a case for fraud. Technically, there was no fraud, but I think you can make a case for it. It's hard to figure the diminished value. Your insurance agent may be able to help. They keep track of such things. Contact the dealer and ask for recession. In fact, demand it. They'll probably tell you to buzz off. After that, you should contact the State Attorney General's office and ask to speak to the fraud division. It's not going to be easy and you're going to have to be persistent. I know if it was me, I could and would get the deal reversed. If it's been more than a month or two, it gets tougher.

Where can I find a carburetor for a 1600cc vw engine?

This carburetor came off of a 1977 Bradley GTII. The carburetor that came off of it is a Holley, but the parts house said they don't make a Holley carburetor for this engine.Where can I find a carburetor for a 1600cc vw engine? That means it probably has a big square mount with 4 holes? Get on line to "Scat" or the speed house of your choice and look for their after market selection. If you want to get a stock carb, you will need to change the center section of your 3 piece intake manifold back to stock and you would be looking for a 30 PICT-2 for the earliest one where they just changed a few jet from the 1500 single port, their attempt to make the dual port work right was the 34 PICT-3 a fairly successful piece of work with many jet possibilities and finally the in 72 they put out the factory twin carb of 34PDSIT-2 and -3. for the type 3- which would need a different tin set up than the old up-right. If you could get the numbers off the engine I could be more specific.

edit: A Bradly is a fiber glass kit car that bolted to a VW chassis.Where can I find a carburetor for a 1600cc vw engine?
Which engine, what? The Holley came off the Bradley? Then you look for a Carb for a Bradley. If this is the carb that was not made for that Bradley engine, then somebody mickey moused the carb to fit.

If however, you cannot get a Holley for a VW engine, then you can't. Go with the stock PICT carbs which you can get at the salvage yards. Or a Weber.Where can I find a carburetor for a 1600cc vw engine?you could try a salvage yard or maybe jc whitney. the vw 1600 cc engine uses a 30 pict carb and people sometimes puts weber carbs on them but i have never heard of any 1600 cc using a holley. any vw specialty store should be able to obtain carbs for your 1600. good luck.Where can I find a carburetor for a 1600cc vw engine?

Ignition wire from key switch to (+) side of coil. Back up lite also. Then there is the electrode jet and choke there too.

The coil ground goes to the distributor.

Test with trouble lite and spark tester (make one from old spark plug and clamp off old battery charger tied together with a hose clamp.)

First turn on the key and see if the coil power lights up- if not fix it.

Next take the center coil wire off the dist and hook to spark tester and spin the engine over with a wrench- Spark? no -do the points/condenser..

Yes- spark- replace cap and rotor.

Now spark test a spark plug. No spark? replace ignition wires (solid core)

Still no start- spray some fuel down the carb-start? well wasn't your ignition at all/

Make sure you keep up the maintenance on it and that car will last a very long time. However if its an automatic, there's a good chance that will eventually start to give out since Volkswagen isn't known for making the best automatic transmissions. When we close her trunk the car says that the trunk is still open. How much would it cost to fix a VW 07 Rabbit Bumper? There are many variables to your question. For example, from your description that the trunk doesnt close properly, i would assume that the bumper must first be taken off to pull out the rear panel of the trunk in order to re-fit and align the trunk before the bumper get put back on for repairs. Assuming the bumper is repairable and hit in the center, I would probably estimate the repairs to cost you between $650-850 depending on the damage. thinking about buying one for a good deal, but i want to paint it. i was just wondering about the price. please help. How much would it cost to paint a VW New Beetle?Thats like asking how much it costs to get across town. You can walk for next to nothing or you can hire a limo..

I can paint your car with spray cans for under $100. Out here the equivilent is Earl Scheib and his $299 special (Clean off your own chrome afterwards)..

I can also get it hand sanded out after removing all the chrome, all the dents removed, good primer and then three coats plus a couple of clear coats and good baked drying before putting the chrome back on.. If you are changing the color 'jambing' will cost you a bit more (painting the inside of the door jambs and the inside of the trunk) about $5k

In general tho.. if you have few or no dents you should be able to get a good job for around $800.

Call around using the yellow pages and ask for rough estimates .. then go see the ones that sound right

.How much would it cost to paint a VW New Beetle? It all depends on where you go. It's not like there is a law that says it has to cost $1000 dollars or less to paint a VW Beetle.

So it pays to shop around, but stick to a Euro specialist, or VW only place.

That's for the water pump as well. It's labor intensive, and difficult to get at.

I have a vw polo on a 94 plate and i have a problem It wont start?

Iv'e checked the battery e.t.c and still no joy i have tried bump and jump starting so i think it could be the starter motor or the solamoid any one have any idea how much i should be paying to have this fixed (worst case scenario)I have a vw polo on a 94 plate and i have a problem It wont start?Check the connections on the starter motor and starter solenoid and the starter earth connection--edit- all connections are fine and battery is ok--then take a direct feed from a set of jumper leads connected to your battery--The,positive terminal of your jumper leads to the starter solenoid small terminal and bridge to starter motor heavy battery wire terminal and take the negative jumper lead terminal to an earth point on the starter or engine and the engine should turn over. You are effectively bench testing the starter motor on the car by doing this.If nothing happens then the starter motor is faulty. Before you do this check that your battery hasnt gone open circuit because if so it will drain the slave battery used for the jump starting. You can test the battery easy by load testing it with a proper meter which you dont have or--bridge the two terminals together for a second and if there is no flash or spark then your battery is flat, remove the battery from the car to do this because a spark can ignite petrol fumes that are present. This test is dangerous to do because a spark can cause the battery to explode if it comes into contact with battery acid fumes but i have done it many times without mishap.Better still buy a meter to test the circuits properly---edit again,if it wont bump start and the engine doesnt lock then it,s more than likely your battery is open circuit--sorry didnt read the question properly and didnt realise you had tried to bump start the carI have a vw polo on a 94 plate and i have a problem It wont start? If it won't bump start, then it won't be a faulty starter motor.

Does the starter motor turn when you turn the ignition key to the 'start' position? If it won't bump start and the battery's OK, it may be an immobiliser or fuel supply problem.

How to mount a side view mirror 1968 VW Bug?

I would like to have a side view mirror on the passenger side but there isn't a hole for it. I replaced the driver's side with a new mirror - which was a cinch - and there was a threaded female nut-esque thing within the door panel. Is there an easy conversion available? Just drill holes for the nuts and bolts you want to use to hold the mirror on the door. How to mount a side view mirror 1968 VW Bug?A tube of superglue or mix up some cement. Or you could weld it on. Or just hold it out the window with your hand; that's a cheap fix.

  • Hi everyone, I have recently bought a 98 vw polo and it starts whistling when im driving?

Its as if the wind is coming in but i know its coming from the engine or sometimes sounds like its coming from the back of the car? I was thinking it might be the heater or a filter need changing somewhere? Any help will be much appreciated...Thanks and best regards, Cliffy.Hi everyone, I have recently bought a 98 vw polo and it starts whistling when im driving?i had this sound happen with my 97 jetta. I found out that it happens when the Fan selector is set to defrost and changed to floor. the way i found to fix it is to change the selector all the way to the right (dash mounted vents). And then back to floor for floor air. this seems to solve my whistling problem.Hi everyone, I have recently bought a 98 vw polo and it starts whistling when im driving?I seen this a lot on old air cooled beetles. If you look at the tailpipe you will see that there is a baffle inserted inside. (In the case of the beetles, I just got a screwdriver or awl and collasped the innards. Then I used a vice grip to pull it out of the tailpipe. Gave my car a slightly deeper sound "but without that whistle".

You may have something similar to what I am describing..

How can I tell you the difference between a swing axle and a irs axle on a VW.?

I have a VW dune buggy with a bad trans. and I need to know how to tell which one I have. How can I tell you the difference between a swing axle and a irs axle on a VW.?That is an easy one.

The swing axle only has the tortion bar arm and the swing axle for the whole rear syspension (per side).

The swing axle is a rigid tube that rotates off the side of the transaxle gear box.

In contrast, the independent rear suspension they started in 69, has a trailing arm attached to the pan, and it is this trailing arm that attaches to the tortion bar arm, to complete the suspension.

So then the drive axle does not have to support anything.

In fact it can't, because it has 2 CV joint swivels in it.

All it can do is supply torque.

So look at the side of the transaxle, and see either a thick (4") straight tube, CV joints and a skinny (1") solid steel shaft.

If you don't want to look that close, just see if the wheels are slightly together at the bottom (classic swing arm camber), or if they are parallel.

How can I get rid of the musty smell that comes out of my 2003 Vw Jetta's Air Conditioner?

Something I can do here at home, and nothing that sticks to the vents. Thanks! How can I get rid of the musty smell that comes out of my 2003 Vw Jetta's Air Conditioner?Try running the A/C and the heater BOTH on high for about ten minutes. The heat will kill any mildew that's growing on the evaporator coil. You need to do this about once a month to keep the system from smelling bad. Give it a try before you give your money to a mechanic.

I AM a mechanic....How can I get rid of the musty smell that comes out of my 2003 Vw Jetta's Air Conditioner?
Fabreeze. How can I get rid of the musty smell that comes out of my 2003 Vw Jetta's Air Conditioner? It's not easy to do but with most cars you can remove the ducting and clean it out. If that fails, you can get an anti-mildew type of cleaner and spray it down into the vents. That should clean up the mustiness though you might get some bleachy smell for a little while. I guess it depends on which you like less
Take it to a VW dealership and let a mechanic look at it. There might be a filter for the ventilation system that can be replaced for little or no charge. How can I get rid of the musty smell that comes out of my 2003 Vw Jetta's Air Conditioner?pull out the blower motor under the passenger side floor-board. use any spray cleaner tp pull through the system. let it go for a while and you're good to go.How can I get rid of the musty smell that comes out of my 2003 Vw Jetta's Air Conditioner?
The more you use it the better it will be.

Leave the fan on high speed. The evaporator coil becomes wet from condensation and will clean itself if you give it enough time.

Another good thing would be to turn the a/c off or turn the temperature all the way up to heat about 5 or 6 minutes before you park the car at night. This dries the evaporator coil so the wetness from the A/C will not grow mildew fungus.
Sounds like the drain is plugged. When you use AC it accumulates water. If that water can not drain out, it will get musty. Unless you are comfortable with tearing the system apart. Take it to a dealer. How can I get rid of the musty smell that comes out of my 2003 Vw Jetta's Air Conditioner?

What causes my VW Corrado G60 engine to knock under load?

When I take off in first gear up a hill the engine tends to knock a bit. Any ideas how I can cure this?

ThanksWhat causes my VW Corrado G60 engine to knock under load?Maybe there's a loose motor mount or suspension piece that is rattling.

Could be the engine itself - bad spark plug wires, bad spark plugs, too much boost, too little octane? What causes my VW Corrado G60 engine to knock under load?
Sounds like piston slap, that's when one or more pistons have a worn thrust face and tend to 'rock' in the cylinder bores when under load at heavier throttle. The test for conformation is to accelerate in too high a gear, say 4th gear from a lower than usual speed intentionally loading the engine,if you can induce the knock this way, then its piston slap, its an abnormal wear pattern caused by poor driving technique, basically, someone has been using too high a gear instead of shifting down. The only cure is an engine bore overhaul,re-bore and new pistons,if you get this done on strip down the wear will be visable on the piston skirt on the leading edge. But,on the bright side, the knock is when it's wearing,so if you can avoid doing it,it won't get worse, the engine could last for ever.the more knock the more wear. What causes my VW Corrado G60 engine to knock under load?Mechanical knock? That don't sound good. Take it to a good mechanic to have them hear it.

I had a knock once after doing 9 hrs of steady driving and stopping the car for a quick coffee. I just accelerated and hoped the knock would go away.

It did. A connecting rod was bending and popped a hole thru the crankcase and seized up the motor. No more knock. Also no more run. History.

You don't want to go there. What causes my VW Corrado G60 engine to knock under load?
well you want to hope its not the big ends....is it a mechanical knock or timing knock?...

Sorry I couldn't help! What causes my VW Corrado G60 engine to knock under load?
Don't accelerate so hard, take it gently, nearly all engines complain when pushed too hard.
Big ends going, very expensive, get it looked at as soon as possible.

Depends on what you want to buy and how long you want it to last.

You can get the guy standing on the corner to do it with a couple of cans of paint or you can send it to a primo shop and have even the door jambs done as well as the inside of the trunk.

On the average, you should be able to get a decent paint job on your bug for between $800 to $1000. Be sure to have at least two clear coats applied to the finished color.
