Its mileage has nothing to do with BP or oil companies. People don't want to buy slow, uncomfortable, less safe cars. Why spend hundreds of millions to build a car that nobody wants to buy?Why do 40 year old VW bugs get better gas mileage then a new one?All new cars have a ton of new technology inside of them. Things like airbags and electric seats are a good example. These make your car heavier which makes it slower and have worse gas mileage. Cars nowadays weigh almost twice as much and have engines to match that. However the engine technology has gotten alot better as well so the gas mileage isn't alot worse in most cases, just a bit.Why do 40 year old VW bugs get better gas mileage then a new one?
Both the new and old Beetles both get about 30 MPG highway, but the new Beetle is more powerful, handles better, stops faster, and is much safer than the old bug which offered no passenger protection whatsoever a collision. Unless you are a collector or have some particular nostalgia for the old beetle you would have to be a fool to get one.
They require a lot of maintenance by todays standards. They were easy to repair if you could do it yourself but if you can't work on it yourself.and you can expect to put your mechanics kids through a year or two of college. Get a warm coat if you drive in cold weather because the heaters were almost useless and of course no air.
