How do I remove the rear seat backrest in a 1973 VW Beetle?

The rear backrest folds down somehow but I can't seem to figure it out. I need to remove the seat to replace the seat cover.How do I remove the rear seat backrest in a 1973 VW Beetle?you need to move the bottom seat first or you may do what I did and ground out the battery and burn yer knee

after removing the seat remove the battery

then the seatback slips upwards off of 4 nuts ..if its been on there a long time it may just be tough to knock loose...hope this helps.
