When should you rebuild the engine on a 1998 VW Jetta?

How many miles? How much would it cost to do so?When should you rebuild the engine on a 1998 VW Jetta?change your timing belt every 60,000 miles and do a tune up every 30,000 miles and change your oil regular so you do not have to rebuild your engine. If you are told your engine is bad and needs a rebuild it is smarter to get a new engine. When should you rebuild the engine on a 1998 VW Jetta?Oil changes were to be done every5000 miles and so were filter changes. Air cleaner changed every 2 years. Timing belt changed every 60,000 miles. It would depend on how closely that was followed. At 120,000 miles I would have the shop inspect the heads because the valves wear thin and a popped intake valve does not do an engine good. Maybe at 200K would be looking at a motor number. Then I would seriously "look" at the car. Is the body and interior good and tranny? And then get some prices on a motor job. Also compare that with what you can pick up at the auto salvage yards(complete motor and cost of installation) aand also just other cars for sale in the newspaper 'looking out for For Sale Vw Jetta that got rear ended. type of deal.

Also ask around as to who does good engine rebuilds(definitely not the dealer as they are interested in selling new cars)When should you rebuild the engine on a 1998 VW Jetta? You should only rebuild the engine if you have had a major catastrophe(blown the engine). Or if you have lost compression(just plain worn out). Everything else can be fixed!
