Any VW splitscreen experts out there who know how to use glazing rubber?

I'm restoring a 67 camper and lost how to use the glazing rubber on a quarter light, it came in a 2 inch wide strip - do you heat it to make it pliable enough to go around the quarter light glass also would you cut into the tight corners and trim after it is in place or cut it to correct width first to mould it around the edge of the glass?Any VW splitscreen experts out there who know how to use glazing rubber?Heating does not soften it really. The best you can to is just use very soapy water.

But all windows have a metal ridge, and you always put a cord into the groove in the rubber, so that when you pull the cord out, the rubber flange will be pulled on the other side of the ridge.

Wrap the cord twice, because it may not get all the flange the first time around.

and you need to leave the rubber a little too big, because you can't tell exactly the final size.

Trim it again at the end.

But I have never used rubber that is 2 inches wide, and never had to cut the width?Any VW splitscreen experts out there who know how to use glazing rubber?a good place to find the answer is www.thesamba.com
