VW jetta TDI runs on diesel. And it provides 30 mpg in city and 42 mpg on highway --- thats better than corolla. And its a full sized car with leather seats and strong engine. So then what is the point of buying hybrid? Why do you need a hybrid car when VW jetta TDI gives 30/42 mpg on city/highway?1) Diesel generally costs more. Right now, it is about 20-25 cents higher than regular, or equal to what premium unleaded costs.
2) In real-life driving and numerous independent tests, the VW Diesel averages 33 mpg, overall. The Prius Hybrid averages 44 mpg, overall. That is still 11 mpg, difference.
A Prius is much more fuel efficient if you are driving in the city.
3) Maintenance Costs on a Prius are way lower than a VW TDI.
The 2010 Prius is also a mid-sized sedan available with leather seats, its base price is less than the TDI base and the Prius has 134 horses, compared to the 140 in the TDI.
Not much difference. Why pay the same amount for a TDI when you are going to get 11mpg less, overall, you are going to pay more, per gallon for diesel, and your maintenance costs will be higher? Why do you need a hybrid car when VW jetta TDI gives 30/42 mpg on city/highway?
because atleast where i live diesel fuel cost alteast 30-50cents higher per gallon and the oil changes cost more. When the jetta as you say gets 30 city and 42 highway VS the prius they both cost the same new but the prius gets 48 city 51 highway. Other than the prius the Jetta is a far better choice over the other hybrids i will give you that. Why do you need a hybrid car when VW jetta TDI gives 30/42 mpg on city/highway?Short answer is you don't. There are many websites that do the math and show you will never recover the extra money a hybrid costs compared to a conventional car, particularly if you don't do much city driving and there are no tax benefits. Many people however are concerned about the environment and choose to buy one anyway. Why do you need a hybrid car when VW jetta TDI gives 30/42 mpg on city/highway?
Because diesel can actually be more expensive than regular gasoline. If you want to hear the truth...hybrids are to show off. That's the answer you were looking for and that's the truth.
Don't start with the diesel is better schtick because for performance cars it is NOT. You can run a corvette with a diesel swap but it won't perform like a corvette. Why do you need a hybrid car when VW jetta TDI gives 30/42 mpg on city/highway?The point of buying a hybrid is to convince yourself and your friends that you care about the environment.
It's 100% image. It's like buying a Hummer or a Mercedes Benz. All it does is tell the world that I'm shallow and I want you to believe I am something important. Why do you need a hybrid car when VW jetta TDI gives 30/42 mpg on city/highway?
Even if it does 60mpg I'd never buy a Volkswagen. I owned one VW in my life and that was the worst car I've ever had. You spend 10 times more on maintenance of what you save on fuel.
Now I own a Nissan and haven't seen a garage for two years, and I get over 30mpg.
hybrid, conserves the environment TDI does the opposite.
