My Vw beetle 1969 Has a problem, when i put it in third it sounds like somthing is hiting stuff and falling ou?

My car when ever i drive it and put it in third or slow down it sounds like something falls out and its hitting stuff, which is weird considering the motor is in the back. I am thinking its the clutch or transmision, but i don't know.My Vw beetle 1969 Has a problem, when i put it in third it sounds like somthing is hiting stuff and falling ou?Ok.. with a bug, EVERYTHING is in the back.

Given that, your noise is not likely the clutch since you say it only happens in third...with a clutch it would happen all the time.

So, the culprit is the tranny. What you describe is typical of a transmission on its last legs (or gears in this case). Soon the problem will spread or it will start popping out of gear at slow rpms.

You may want to start looking into the cost of a new tranny (around a grand or so ). That gives you time to budget for it if you need to. Once it starts popping out of gear it is likely on its last legs.

Sorry for the bad news.. but at least you can plan.

.My Vw beetle 1969 Has a problem, when i put it in third it sounds like somthing is hiting stuff and falling ou?transmission and clutch are in the back too. I am guessing%26lt;we have to guess%26gt; muffler bearings are not aligned so are waging war against each other by throwing out car parts.

Definitely is transmission. If it is in third and only when it is in third and it is not a Wednesday.....Shop time. I can't see anything blowing up on third(but then again I am blind)My Vw beetle 1969 Has a problem, when i put it in third it sounds like somthing is hiting stuff and falling ou?Find someone that can explain it better. My Vw beetle 1969 Has a problem, when i put it in third it sounds like somthing is hiting stuff and falling ou?
bad clutch.

clutches go out about 90k miles.

especially if it smells like burnt cat piss, it is probably going out.
