You wouldn't want the tensioner to break on you after you replaced the belt. I'm sure that it has alot of wear on it already due to the age. Its easier and cheaper to do it once rather than to have to go back later to do it again. And you need to figure out which one your doing. Either the serpentine belt or the timing belt. Two different belts and two different tensioners.
