I just went out in the garage and measured the dipstick on my 1974 9-14. It is 14 inches long. The 9-14 and T2 busses all share the same engine (also the type 411 and 412 VW cars). I'm not 100% sure if they share the same dipstick design though. My dip stick is not flexible like most cars, and is inserted STRAIGT down vertically into a tube that's near the oil filler cap. The filler cap is about 2-3 inches in diameter, says "OEL" on it, and screws onto a funnel shaped neck. If your oil filler and dipstick look like mine, I bet they're the same.
Side note: I love the late 70's Westies.
Did you know that VW STILL produces that same body style in Brazil? It's called the Kombi, and in the past couple years they've started putting water-cooled engines in them.
