How do I tell if its the ingniton coil on my 1999 vw cabrio that caused my car 2 breakdown?

I have a new battery, getting gas to the engine, and it turns over fine but doesnt fire. My car died on the way back from the store and hasnt started since. Its doing about the same thing as it when my ignition coil went bad two years ago. It did about the same thing and then just started like three weeks laterHow do I tell if its the ingniton coil on my 1999 vw cabrio that caused my car 2 breakdown? You can test the coil with an Volt/OHM Meter using the Ohm Scale. You can test to make sure that you have continuity between the two small poles and also the center high voltage pole and the two other small poles. The Ohm value is different between car and models. It might be in factory service manual. Or you can test a new one at the dealer. I would let you test one in stock if I were a dealer. Coils don't normally go bad, I have only seen one real failure in all my years of wrenching on cars/motorcycles/boats/airplanes. Do you get a CEL (Check Engine Light)? If you don't get any CEL codes then you may have a failed coil like you say and have experienced before. Good Luck! How do I tell if its the ingniton coil on my 1999 vw cabrio that caused my car 2 breakdown?I think it's more of a mas air flow sensor problem. all you can do to check your coils is check for resistance. you need a voltmeter. How do I tell if its the ingniton coil on my 1999 vw cabrio that caused my car 2 breakdown?Make your self a spark tester. Get an old spark plug.(trash) Get a hose clamp big enough to got round it and a clip like is on the end of you battery charger(Radio Shack).Clamp the spark plug to the clip. Now plug a spark plug lead on to it and clip it to the block. Spin over and look for spark. You may need to spread the plug gap a bit. That will separate the "run" "no run" down to something else.
