I'm in the market for a new car. I'm wondering if VW Beetles are good cars for winter. I live in Colorado and we have a fairly harsh winter. I haven't heard anything bad about them as far as the winter goes, but I figured I'd ask anyway.
Thanks! Are the new VW Beetles a good winter car?Well they are front wheel drive, and most newer models also have a built in optional 4 wheel drive...which is amaaaazing in snowy weather. They aren't very "heavy" cars, which is good to have in winter weather, but the 4 wheel drive could make up for that. Also, throwing some sandbags in the back will keep it from spinning out on ice.Are the new VW Beetles a good winter car?My wife and I drove a New Beetle for years. Thru out the year; summer, fall and even during the snow and ice of winter. When driven with common sense the NB will be fine in the snow.
Like all other modern front wheel cars, the NB has abt. 5 inches of ground clearance. So as long as you dont get any deeper than that, you will be fine.
I would think that the fine state of Colorado will have adequate snow equipment for those snowy times....Are the new VW Beetles a good winter car?You can't get a 4WD/AWD Beetle without finding an ultra-rare RSi....
Anyway, they do OK, especially with dedicated snow tires. If you can find an '03+ it should have ESP/ASR/EDL (all different traction enhancing systems) which make for a world of difference. The biggest problem with the cars is that you only have bout 4" of ground clearance, then you're right at the aluminum oil pan, so... watch out for ice chunks unless you want to buy a new engine. Are the new VW Beetles a good winter car?
I think so, if he's like the old beetle, than it's a real good car for the winter.
